How Do You Love the Unlovable? By: Stacy Wendell In preparation for this study, I have been reading a book written by Derrick Prince entitled "They Shall Expel Demons" According to the text, throughout the bible there are instances of encounters with "unclean spirits." During the earthly ministry of Jesus, He encountered demons or demonic spirits on more than one occasion. At each opportunity Jesus called out the spirit and showed compassion to the person that was demonized. In my first essay I asked the question: How do you love the unlovable? I have prayed on it, I have begun to read and research but I received a piece of my answer by talking with my friend who was the victim of the attack that prompted my personal study. How do you love the unlovable? You just love. In spite of the attack her spirit remains loving and full of goodness. What an awesome reminder of what Jesus would do... As Christians we are called to pray for our enemies and show them love regardless of how we may feel. Demons are unclean spirits. According to the texts the word possession has been misused in conjunction with demons. Possession speaks to ownership. A Christian could never be owned by demons because he or she is owned by Christ. 1 Peter 1:18-19: "The blood of Christ set you free from n empty way of life...You know that you were not bought with things that can pass away like silver and gold. Instead you were bought by the priceless blood of Christ." The correct word is "demonized." In Matthew 12:43-45 it says: "What happens when an evil spirit comes out of a man? It goes through dry areas looking for a place to rest, but doesn't find it." Then it says: "I will return to the house I left. When it arrives there it finds the house empty. The house has been swept clean and put in order. Then the evil spirit goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself. They go in and live there. That man is worse off than before. That is how it will be with the evil people of today." The "house" that is referred to is the body of the person who is demonized. The demon has invaded the body of the person and considers the body to be its home. Unless the demon is confronted and challenged it shall remain in the person causing confusion and pain. In my next installment I will examine how do you recognize a demon or demonized person and how a demon gains entry. I welcome your feedback. May the grace of God sustain us all. Blessings, |
